A Risky Pivot?

I've been taking some long walks lately, listening to personal development podcasts and trying to figure out a path forward for myself. But what conclusions have I come to?

Eikaiwa Admin status

I've finished writing all the infoboxes and have made a start on seeking out any remaining English that needs Japanese translations. There's quite a lot. In the early days, I was consistent in keeping the translation file in sync, but as I went back and made changes and added new features, I got lazy with the translations. It's time to put that right.

Answering the hard questions

Is there really a market for Eikaiwa Admin? Perhaps, but it's tiny. I no longer believe this is something I could successfully turn into a full-time business. And if I can't do that, how do I earn a living? As I mentioned in my previous blog post, my own school isn't doing so well, and now that I'm in my fifties I have very little enthusiasm to try and turn that around, especially as the "Conversation School" industry is in decline.

I know it sounds crazy but...

I want to be a rock star.

Haha, no, not really, but close! I want to be video game developer.

Actually, I'm not just a lifelong, passionate gamer, but I also have a degree in Computer Science and made a game back in 2019 that sold over 3,000 copies, has a 97% positive rating, and still earns me around 10,000 yen a year. That's barely pocket money, but it's a proof of concept!

I won't go into details today, other than to say that I've managed to resurrect that game, and have readied an update which I'll push to Steam (a PC gaming a platform) later this week. Initially, I'm just trying to get back on the bike, and then I can work on bigger projects.
